Adjust the light positions and filters until you get the best compromise. At this point you may find that shadows created by these new lights are cast on the screen. Once the screen is lit to your satisfaction, add the main lighting for the subjects. You will probably want to experiment with different combinations to get the most even lighting. Diffusion helps create more even lighting and reduce the impact of shadows. Note: Diffusion filters are very handy when lighting green screens. The diagram below shows how you could light a green screen which is a few metres across, using a couple of 300-500w lights (one at each end) and a couple of 100-250w lights below pointing up. You will need at least two lights, preferably more. The whole point is to create a single, consistent shade of colour across the entire screen. The key to lighting a green screen is consistency. As mentioned previously, you should plan your screen lights before you begin construction. The darker areas become harder to chroma key out afterward, especially if there are transparent objects or fine hair within the shot. 10x13ft Chromakey Green Screen Studio Lighting Kit W/ Backdrop Stand Light 1 x Linco4152, 7x10 Feet Background Support System 3 x Linco8806, Zenith 77. It's highly unlikely that you would be able to use the screen with existing ambient light or the same light you use for the foreground subjects. Bad green screen and lights result in an uneven tone on camera. ![]() FACT: The green screen technique, officially known as the chroma key process, also works with red and blue, but filmmakers don't use red because it's a dominant color in human skin tone.In case you're wondering, the green screen does require it's own lighting. Now there's no limit to where your creative vision can take you! Step 6: Practice Practice lighting a green screen as much as possible in order to finesse your technique and get the best look every time.Reduce spill by adjusting or adding lights, or by moving the talent further away from the screen. Step 5: Turn it all on Turn all the lights on and make sure no green light is reflected on the talent.Additional lights and gels may be required use any gel as long as it doesn't closely match the screen's hue. Keep in mind the lighting needs to match the background that will be composited into the scene later. Step 4: Light the talent Turn the screen lights off and light the talent. If the stripes appear uniform, you're good to go. If stripes appear in some patches before others, adjust the lights so the screen is illuminated more evenly. Step 3: Find hot spots Use your camera's "zebra" function to find hotspots.Diffuse the lights with gels, reposition the barn doors, and move the lights so the screen is lit as evenly as possible. Step 2: Light the screen Once everything is in place, take the actor out of the equation.TIP: For full-body shots, lay non-green blankets or poster board on the floor around the talent to reduce reflected green light.Light the talent independently from the screen. Place the lights for the screen behind or beside the talent to avoid shadows. ![]() Included are two EZ softbox lights that are quick to set up, lightweight.
